Euro Causes Major Rethink for Labour Supporters

Recent polling conducted by Survation for the website LabourList surfaced over the weekend, which held some very interesting findings on Labour support for rejoining the EU. The survey was conducted on readers of the LabourList website, and amongst other things asked readers whether or not they supported the idea of rejoining the EU. That this came back with a high percentage for rejoin was not surprising, as it is well known that Labour supporters skew heavily towards EU membership. However when asked in a follow-up question if the need to adopt the Euro would make them reconsider, nearly 40% of those who previously said they wanted to rejoin, changed their vote.

The need to agree in an international treaty to adopt the Euro currency, is the Achilles Heel of all rejoin campaigning - which is why it is rarely mentioned at all by those on the other side of the debate.
