The FT is reporting that "German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and five other EU leaders have threatened to withhold agreement on the bloc’s next seven-year budget unless 'hundreds of billions' of euros in spending cuts are secured". Politico has a non-paywalled version of the story here.
This is a timely reminder that the EU budget is set to grow substantially, as are the Brexit savings on contributions that the UK would have had to make if still a member.
