As was always expected to happen, the EU are now demanding around £1 Billion a year contribution to their annual budget from the UK, to allow for the Labour government's desires on dynamic alignment to proceed. It takes a certain hubris that only the European Union is capable of, to demand to be paid to have control over the laws of a neighbouring country - all for the pleasure of not checking imports that they used to not check anyway, and that are of a higher standard.
Labour will no doubt attempt to use the argument that dynamic alignment will result in an increase in UK GDP sufficient to offset that cost, but as the team at Britain Unbound have recently covered in an Explainer, those forecasts are riddled with flaws.
As the article states, the demands are in line with those made of Switzerland, with the size of the contribution directly proportional to the relative size of UK GDP compared to that of the Swiss. The article notes that the contribution would be "politically contentious", which the Britain Unbound team believe is quite the understatement.
