Daily Briefing – Friday 15th May

Good morning and welcome to the weekend, in what has been a rare week in UK politics, where a single story has consistently dominated the news.

  • The Labour Leadership Challenge
  • The King's Speech Debate

The Labour Leadership Challenge

With the Health Secretary Wes Streeting having resigned, and a Labour MP having volunteered to resign in order to free up a seat for Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham to contest, other ambitious Labour politicians are starting to pop their heads above the parapet and throw their names into the ring.

Britain Unbound will be considering the platforms of the runners and riders as they announce their consideration for the top job, and will be looking at their previous statements for a guide on what a government under their stewardship may look like. Watch this space!

The King's Speech Debate

Yesterday saw the House of Lords debate the EU Partnership Bill, with some excellent contributions from Baroness Finn and our own Lord Redwood, amongst many others. With it being Friday, Parliament will not be sitting - but the debate on the contents of the King's Speech will continue to play out in the media.
