Press Release
LONDON, 6th June 2026: New polling released today from YouGov, conducted on behalf of the newly formed non-partisan campaign organisation Britain Unbound, has revealed exclusively that the British public from all education levels, all income bandings and all nations and regions reject the UK Government sacrifices being made in the EU Reset negotiations.
The polling, which took place from 25-26 May and included a representative sample of 2120 GB adults, found that only 27% of people would be willing to accept less power over rules and laws that apply in the UK, as a condition for greater access to the EU Single Market.
This unwillingness to accept following EU rules and laws for greater Single Market access – which is a fundamental requirement of the EU Reset terms (dynamic alignment requires the UK to follow EU regulations) – holds true across every GB nation, every aggregate region of England, every education level, every household income level and every work type.
The question asked – “To what extent would you be willing or unwilling to accept…less power for the UK over laws and rules that apply here…in return for the UK to be granted greater access to the EU’s Single Market?”
Steve Wright, Director of Britain Unbound: “This polling result is a damning indictment of the policy of the current UK Government, and demonstrates the need for organisations like Britain Unbound to offset the disservice currently being provided by this Government to the British people.”
Britain Unbound Co-Patron, Maurice Glasman: “The British people are waiting for a Government that pursues the great possibilities that Brexit opens up for national renewal.”
Britain Unbound Co-Chair, Advisory Council, John Redwood: “Good to see the public recognise the EU re set as a dreadful deal for the UK. We would sacrifice powers to set our own laws and taxes, pay them money we cannot afford and get no benefits for the sacrifice. We will not grow faster by imposing EU laws and taxes, only to import more as the EU burdens hit our factories and farms.”
Britain Unbound Advisory Council Member, Claire Fox: “As a legislator, it is exasperating that our own governments try to pass laws that hand powers to the executive to avoid parliamentary and popular accountability. Politicians can’t shake off the bad habits they learnt in Brussels. This government’s anti-democratic instincts go further – to ring-fence, hide, even wrench back control of law-making in the morass of EU regulation and then casually impose new laws on voters and hope they don’t notice. They do notice and know this is a slap across the public’s face. Britain Unbound has exposed this grubby secret at the heart of the Labour government’s EU Reset project.”
Britain Unbound Advisory Council Member, Andrew Rosindell MP: “The public are absolutely right to reject any arrangement that would see Britain once again having rules imposed upon them by the European Union. Our laws should be made in Westminster, accountable to the British electorate in their Parliament, not dictated by Brussels through so-called ‘dynamic alignment’. Brexit was about restoring democratic self-government. The Government must not surrender that hard-won independence in pursuit of closer EU integration.”
