Daily Briefing – Thursday 14th May

Good morning and welcome to your Britain Unbound Daily Briefing - here are the stories the Unbound team are expecting to be generating the headlines tomorrow:

  • The runners and riders for the job of Prime Minister
  • The debate on the bills in the Kings Speech: Day 2

The runners and riders for the job of Prime Minister

With the contest now expected to begin today, with the briefings to journalists suggesting Wes Streeting delayed his bid for the job until after the King's speech out of respect for the King, the rumour mill is increasing and the riders beginning to show their hand.

Ed Miliband, Andy Burnham, Angela Rayner and Al Carns are all expected to make a play for the top seat - with a resignation from an MP in the West Midlands expected later today to allow for Andy Burnham to attempt to win a seat at the table in a by-election (no doubt with a promise of a peerage for the MP who resigns, if the play works).

The Britain Unbound team looked through the news archives at each of their positions on the key topics of concern for Britain Unbound, which you can read here

The debate on the bills in the Kings Speech: Day 2

Today the House of Commons and the House of Lords will be debating parts of the King's Speech, with the focus today being the EU Partnership Bill. The team here at Britain Unbound will be paying particular attention to this debate, and the comments made or indeed not made by the government, in relation to what it is they intend to agree with the EU and what sacrifices will be made to achieve it.
